Half Empty or Half Full? (Negative vs Positive)

Do you see the glass as half empty or half full whenever faced with an uncomfortable circumstance?

Your way of thinking at that moment of incident can determine the mindset, and therefore the action on how you are going to move forward throughout the day. For example, this past week I started a new job and could have either said to myself "I'm nervous because I don't know what to expect" or "I am excited because a new journey begins." So often I see this struggle in positively reframing our situations and we often would rather settle for hyper-focusing on a negative reframe. Here are a few more examples:

  • Statement: I hate my commute to work.
    • Reframe: I get to listen to my music on my way to work.
  • Statement: I don't know what to decide.
    • Reframe: I'm glad I have a choice.
  • Statement: I wish they would stop asking me for help.
    • Reframe: My skills are needed.

The list can go on and on, but being able to positively reframe your situation can be a step in the right direction to help you observe a different look at a situation.

The great thing about writing is that this is just the start of the discussion. Have you ever caught yourself in a negative thought or feeling? How did you positively reframe it? Feel free to comment below.
